Peptic Ulcer Disease Basics
Peptic ulcer disease occurs when open sores form on the inner lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine. It is often caused by an infection with Helicobacter pylori or long-term use of NSAIDs. Symptoms include burning stomach pain, bloating, and nausea, and treatment usually involves medications to reduce stomach acid and eliminate the infection.
